Our production of Philip Barry’s romantic comedy The Philadelphia Story opens May 20th at CCCT.
Originally made famous by Katherine Hepburn, It tells the story of Philadelphia heiress and socialite Tracy Lord. After getting a divorce from C. K. Dexter Haven, she prepares to marry again. However, in the days before her wedding, Haven and a reporter, posing as her brother’s friend, show up at her doorstep. From there, Tracy is forced to choose among her past love, her present love, and her new love.
Although this mad-cap high society comedy was a smash hit on Broadway, most people remember the Oscar-winning film version which starred Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart.
Director Matthew Phillips promises his show will leave you happy and even a little romantic, too.
