ABOUT ABOUT

Bram Stoker's classic vampire tale of evil, blood and the power of love, “Dracula” opens Friday, October 17th, at the Clear Creek Community Theatre in Nassau Bay.

Although there is some comic relief, playwright Steven Dietz’ adaption of Stoker’s novel is not campy.  As this passage illustrates, the play’s dialogue emulates that of the novel:   “I want your fear – For your fear, like a current, rushes through your body. Your fear makes your heart pound; it renders your veins rich and full. Your fear hemorrhages deliciously within you…"

Central to the play are two young couples in London – Lucy Westenra and Dr. John Seward, a noted psychologist; and, Mina Murray and businessman Jonathan Harker.   After Lucy contracts a mysterious illness, Dr. Seward seeks medical advice from his old professor, Abraham Van Helsing.  Meanwhile, Harker returns from a business trip to Transylvania seemingly insane.  He enters Dr. Seward’s asylum for treatment, during which time Harker’s encounter with a Count Dracula is revealed.   As Count Dracula begins to exert his will upon the residents of London, they try to piece together the clues of his appearances—in a valiant attempt to save themselves from a hideous fate.
